Nia Griffith MP visited the Llanelli and Kidwelly-based wellbeing group Ty-Golau this month. She welcomed a new weekly session for people with memory problems.

Ty-Golau provides support and activities for people living with conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia. It is starting a new session every Thursday from 2pm to 3.30pm in the Antioch Centre. This is in addition to Thursday morning sessions here from 10.30 am-12pm and a regular Wednesday morning session at the same time in Kidwelly’s Neuadd Mynyddygarreg Hall.

Llanelli’s MP, Nia Griffith, said:

“It was a pleasure to visit Ty-Golau and see the excellent work they do for people who don’t remember things quite as well as they used to!

“I know how much of a difference the activities they run make to the people who attend and the carers. The organisation is staffed entirely by volunteers, and it was inspiring to see the work they do for our community”.

“It is excellent news that Ty-Golau are now able to provide an extra afternoon session in the Antioch Centre on Thursdays. There are many people who could benefit from this, but only if they know it exists. I would encourage everyone to spread the word about this fantastic service and get in touch”.

Janet Lewis, a retired Occupational Therapist and Manager of Ty-Golau, said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer a new regular session on Thursday afternoons in Llanelli town. This will expand the range of services we are able to offer and allow more people living with memory related conditions and their carers to get help and support”.

“I started Ty-Golau almost 10 years ago when I became aware that there was a lack of community services for people with dementia and carers locally. The sessions have been very successful, and we are now a recognised centre of support for people with memory problems”.

“We are not just a social group. The sessions are planned to provide cognitive stimulation and specialist care with interesting and stimulating activities. They are presented in a non-threatening, fun way. Please get in touch with me if you or anyone you know could benefit from these sessions”.
